Gion Dinosaur

Gion Dinosaur is a newly restored house situation in the heart of Gion in Kyoto. Its unusual name come from the big bathroom mural which is as unique as inviting for families!

The ground floor is a bright, open space with a modern kitchen with dark and stylish furniture. Right next to it is a small Japanese tatami room, where you can lay down a futon or relax while enjoying family life and conversation. The living-room is an open-view to the small garden.

On to the right, you will find a western-style bedroom with a queen-size bed and an elegant antique to sit at and write about your adventures in Japan.

Among these nice aspects, the bathroom is most probably the top-one feature! A big dinosaur mural covers the entirety of one wall. Can you name them all in Japanese?
A big bubble-bath will help you relax after a long day of visiting the city.

The second floor is available for groups of five guests and more. It features another kitchen and washing machine, a restroom with a separated shower, which means no lining up to wash yourself up in the morning! The 2F also includes a sofa bed and two futon sets, as well as a projector for movie nights after long walks in Kyoto!

Quick description of the layout:

1F: Kitchen, Living Room with sofa, Japanese room (2 people), Western room (2 people), Bathroom.
2F: Kitchen, washing machine, restroom, shower room, sofa-bed, 2 futon sets, projector, independent access.
Outside: Garden, keybox

The house comes fully furnished and includes free Wi-Fi, induction stove, cooking ustensils, microwave oven, refrigerator, washer/dryer, shower/bathtub, hairdryer, air conditioning units, and a reliable heating system for the chilly Kyoto winter nights.

The short Shinkansen journey between Himeji and Okayama, though quick, traverses a part of the Sanyo region, rich in history and culture. Okayama is often nicknamed the "Land of Sunshine" and is famous for its Korakuen Garden, one of Japan's three most beautiful landscape gardens. For travelers, it's an opportunity to go in a few minutes from a major historical site like Himeji Castle to a city known for its pleasant lifestyle and its connection to the legend of Momotaro. Okayama Station, as an important hub, offers a variety of local Ekiben (station bentos), including those inspired by Momotaro, providing a unique culinary experience before continuing the journey.

Frequently asked questions

The journey between Himeji and Okayama is made via the Sanyo Shinkansen. Trains such as the Hikari, Sakura, and Kodama serve this route. Nozomi services are also available. To board, travelers should proceed to the dedicated Shinkansen platforms at Himeji and Okayama stations. The stations are clearly signposted, and platforms are easily identifiable.

The cost of a Shinkansen ticket between Himeji and Okayama typically ranges from 3,000 to 3,500 yen for a non-reserved seat, and approximately 3,500 to 4,000 yen for a reserved seat, depending on the train type and time of travel. Please note that the Japan Rail Pass is valid on Hikari, Sakura, and Kodama trains, but not on Nozomi services.

The Shinkansen journey between Himeji and Okayama is brief. With the fastest trains like the Sakura or Hikari, the trip takes approximately 20 minutes. Kodama services, which stop at more stations, may take up to 30-35 minutes. We recommend checking schedules for your specific train type.

The Shinkansen is significantly faster than local trains for connecting Himeji to Okayama. While the Shinkansen completes the journey in 20 to 35 minutes, a local train typically requires between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes, often with one or more transfers. We recommend the Shinkansen to optimize travel time and benefit from the comfort of the seats and luggage space, even for short distances.
