In terms of cost, a ticket for the Super Hakuto is often comparable, or even slightly more expensive, than a non-reserved seat on the Shinkansen for this specific journey, if you do not have a Japan Rail Pass. For travelers going directly from Himeji to Kyoto, the Shinkansen remains the fastest and often the most economical or convenient option, especially if a Japan Rail Pass is used.
