Fukuyama Station is one of the few Shinkansen stations in Japan from which you can directly see a historic castle. Stepping off the platforms, Fukuyama Castle stands majestically, just a few minutes' walk away. This castle, rebuilt after World War II bombings, was originally erected in 1619 by Mizuno Katsunari and served as a strategic point to control the Sanyo region.
