About the Sumo Hall

A location that is well-known for holding sumo wrestling matches and representing Japan's rich cultural legacy is Sumo Hall Hirakuza in Osaka. The Hirakuza is located in the heart of Osaka (next to the Namba Station) and is used for the ongoing attraction of sumo wrestling. Sumo wrestling has been an essential component of Japanese culture for many years.

The history of Sumo Hall Hirakuza begins during the Edo period, when sumo wrestling was becoming increasingly popular as a ritual and form of entertainment. Former sumo wrestlers will deliver performances on a specially designed stage.

Location

During your train journey between Saiki and Oita, the Nippo Main Line runs along a part of the coastline, offering beautiful views of the Bungo Strait. This section of the trip allows you to observe the varied coastal landscapes of Oita Prefecture, alternating between urban areas and expansive sea views. It's a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the region's diverse geography from the comfort of your train seat.

Frequently asked questions

We recommend taking the JR Nippo Main Line. Limited Express trains are the fastest and most direct options. The journey starts at Saiki Station and ends at Oita Station. Tickets can be purchased directly at JR ticket counters (known as "Midori no Madoguchi" or "Green Windows") or from ticket machines at stations, as well as through certain online reservation services.

The average travel time by Limited Express train between Saiki and Oita is approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. Local trains covering the same route may take between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 hours, with more frequent stops. We recommend Limited Express services for their speed and comfort. Trains in Japan are renowned for their punctuality.

The cost of a Limited Express ticket between Saiki and Oita consists of a base fare (for the journey) and a Limited Express surcharge (for the faster service and added comfort). For an unreserved seat, the total price generally ranges between 2,000 and 2,500 JPY. The price may vary slightly depending on the seat type (reserved or unreserved) and the season. Onboard Limited Express trains, travelers benefit from comfortable seating and dedicated luggage space. For large suitcases, specific storage areas are usually available at the ends of the train cars.

Yes, there are direct bus services connecting Saiki to Oita. These services are operated by local bus companies. The bus travel time is often slightly longer than by Limited Express train, generally between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on traffic and stops. The cost of a bus ticket can be comparable to or slightly lower than a local train ticket, but it is often similar to a Limited Express ticket for equivalent comfort. Bus departure and arrival points may differ from train stations, so we advise you to check the exact stop locations when planning your trip.
