What is this chopstick-making workshop about?
This craft experience lets you create your own pair of chopsticks, the perfect souvenir from Japan. Instead of buying ready-made items, you’ll shape your own chopsticks from high-quality Japanese cedar wood, a material prized for its smooth texture and natural fragrance.
The wood will be carefully shaped using a small plane, and you'll personalize a fabric case using the historic Kyô Yuzen dyeing technique : a traditional art form dating back to the 17th century.
Kyô Yuzen is known for its intricate patterns and vibrant colors, often used to decorate kimonos.
Why is crafting chopsticks a unique experience?
Making your own chopsticks is not just about creating a souvenir : it's an immersion in Japanese wood craftsmanship.
Chopsticks in Japan symbolize respect for nature and food, and by crafting your own, you deepen your connection to these values. The materials, shape, and designs you choose reflect your personal experience, making it a meaningful keepsake.
